Missional Service Component

“Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross!”

Phil 2:4-8

Considering the gifts poured out to us at baptism, we are reminded that God blesses us to be a blessing to others. Families are encouraged to seek opportunities to serve together in neighborhood, school, community, national, and international service projects.  Missional service is one way to show God’s love to others. Face-to-face service (meaning working with another person) is strongly encouraged. It is nice to mow someone’s lawn, but also remember to take the time to sit down with that person, talk  and be Jesus with skin on to them.

A minimum of 10 service hours are required each year. Service requirements will be accepted September 2009-April 20010 for the 2009-2010 Confirmation year. It is recommended that at least one hour be completed a month.

Youth are to have service credit slips signed by the supervising adult for the particular service project, whether it was at RLC or in the community. Parents are encouraged to complete forms as they feel comfortable.  Blank forms are found in the mailboxes next to the door from the hallway to the narthex in the main building.

Be sure to include all information penned clearly to insure credit.

Return completed cards to the appropriate mailbox next to the one where blank forms are found.

They will be logged into student records, with totals included on learner’s progress reports issued at the end of each semester.

Parents are encouraged to help youth seek a variety of service project options. See list on facing page  for ideas and options.
