Holden Evening Prayer was composed by Marty Haugen in 1985-86 at Holden Village, a Lutheran retreat center in Washington State, evolving from a simple Lutheran vespers service into an iconic, beloved liturgy known for its contemporary music, inclusive language, and communal participation, becoming a staple in many churches globally, especially during Advent and Lent.
