Resurrection offers an outreach to the blind in the form of a monthly social that includes dinner prepared by our own Chef Kim, devotion, prayer, and fellowship. We have musical entertainment provided by our talented musicians or outside groups. Here, both sighted and visually impaired people gather for friendship and support as they show and tell Jesus' love. These events occur on the last Friday of the month from 5:30-7:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Volunteers provide transportation, prepare and serve food to guests, and help set up and clean up.

A few years back, Annette Langefeld-Kennedy and her husband, Bruce, expressed a desire to reach out to the blind community in the Triangle area. After some research and finding a congregation in Conover to serve as a mentor, the Blind Ministry began at RLC on a Friday night in January of 2012. The model was designed to help this community of people, which can often become very isolated, have a space and time to be connected with each other and with caring Christian partners. The first night began with 5 guests for dinner and prayer. The ministry and community have grown since then, now entertaining
between 30 and 40 guests one Friday night per month gathering in the Fellowship Hall for dinner, conversation, musical entertainment, and time for devotions and prayer.

The Blind Ministry even hosted a wedding during the January 2018 event. The ceremony took place in the Sanctuary with Pastor Mark Drengler officiating, the dinner and fellowship time served as the reception. Everyone enjoyed a wonderful evening!

Our ministry has grown tremendously since we started in January 2012! As you can imagine, it takes a lot of volunteers to be able to host such an event. You can ask any of the volunteers who faithfully serve what a joy it is to be involved. We all feel richly rewarded by bringing joy into their lives and showing them the love that Christ first showed us. Our guests keep telling us how much they look forward to this time of fellowship and how much they appreciate what we are doing for them.

We are always looking for more drivers. Can you give your time on the last Friday of the month, or maybe one Friday every two months? Drivers need to be available from 4:00-8:00 pm.

Our Blind Ministry is currently paused out of caution for our guests.

We were thrilled to be able to provide
a bag of blessings
to our guests
at Christmastime!

Thanks to a grant from the Lutheran Women in Mission-Carolinas District,
we were able to purchase Grocery Gift Cards and a CD of Christmas Music.

And we are especially thankful for all of the RLC members
who contributed toiletries and food items to add to our gift bags.

A Thrivent Financial Action Team grant
topped off the item donations.

Big round of applause to the Drivers of our Blind Ministry team
who delivered 42 bags to homes!

Thank you to Jamee Thieme and Carol Bostick who coordinated this event.

We look forward to the day we can all be together safely again!
