Sunday, December 9
at the 8:00 and 10:30 am Worship Services
in the Sanctuary

Approximately 70 musicians will lead our celebration of the Christmas Season. Gloria by Vivaldi will be presented by The Festival Chorus including members of the Sanctuary Choir and Harmonia Deum, accompanied by a chamber orchestra.

“Gloria in Excelsis Deo…”  has been used in the historical church, from its earliest days, as the Hymn of Praise – an Ordinary in the liturgy of the Divine Service (or Eucharist, or Mass). Following historical practice, Antonio Vivaldi has taken the text to this canticle and set it for choir, soloists, and orchestra. His Gloria separates this canticle into individual choral works each based on phrases from the original text – the meanings of which are reflected in the music: text-painting. This canticle is called “The Angels’ Song” because it begins with the text sung by the Heavenly Host when they announced the Birth of Jesus Christ to the shepherds outside the city of Bethlehem (Luke 2:14). It was translated as, “Glory to God in the Highest” by the Lutheran Church in The Lutheran Hymnal (1941).

The Heavenly Handbells will also present arrangements of familiar Christmas Carols.

Please plan on attending and join in singing
with the angel choir our praises to Immanuel – God With Us!
